ER - Ya Never Know…  Pt. 2

&nbs p;     “I think we should set Robbi up with Weaver,” Abby said thoughtfully, to Neela over lunch in the lunchroom. Neela almost spit up her milk, feeling it bubbling in the back of her nose, as she choked it down. She wiped her lips with a napkin that Abby handed her. Abby batted her dark eyes, as if telling Neela that she was deadly serious.

&nbs p;     “What?” she asked, almost too loudly. She looked around for a minute and then said in a softer voice, “What did you say?”

&nbs p;     “Well, I haven’t heard her talking about dating anyone. I think that Robbi should have someone, don’t you? You have to admit that Weaver is much nicer when she’s… you know?” Abby alluded, her dark eyes sparkling with mischief, her hands waving in front of her.

&nbs p;     “No, I don’t know what you are talking about,” Neela said, in her stiff accent, her brow creased with confusion. Abby had a way of alluding to things and Neela sometimes felt like she was lost in a conversation not of her own doing.

&nbs p;     “You know when she’s… getting some?” Abby offered, and Neela reared her head back and groaned. She couldn’t believe that Abby was playing cupid, for Kerry Weaver, of all people. Why was it that she didn’t play cupid with her? Was it because she was waiting on Gallant to come to her rescue?

&nbs p;     “Oh god Abby, I don’t believe you just insinuated that,” Neela lamented, and Abby forced the smile from her lips. “I thought we liked Robbi?” Neela then asked, while Abby fixed her coffee, adding three sugars. She batted her eyes again, wondering what Neela meant by that.

&nbs p;     “We do,” Abby said, without reproach, not fully understanding what Neela’s problem was. Everyone needed someone else even Kerry Weaver.

&nbs p;     “Then why on earth would we want her dating Dr. Weaver of all people?” Neela asked, aghast and Abby stopped cold not having thought of it that way.

&nbs p;     “I don’t know, because, she’s the only lesbian I know. I think she is the only one I know…” Abby began turning slowly and looking over the crowd in the lunchroom, then she shook her head and squelched the thought of trying to figure out, who was gay and who was straight, in a crowd of scrub wearing men and women.

&nbs p;     “Except for you, of course,” Neela said, her face breaking out into a grin. She found it amusing that Abby had such a checkered past. A past that none of them knew about, because Abby kept things under wraps, just as Robbi did.

&nbs p;     “You keep bringing that up.” Abby wagged her finger at her and Neela grabbed it twisting lightly. Abby narrowed her eyes and wrenched her finger free from Neela’s steel like grasp.

&nbs p;     “I find it interesting, is all,” Neela began, as she poured the dressing onto her salad, “That you’ve kissed a woman, and failed to mention it, in all the time we’ve known each other and we even lived together.” Abby rolled her dark eyes and made a face, the laugh lines and dimples standing out and making her look older than her real age.

&nbs p;     “It was a dare!” Abby said, with an exaggerated sigh. She’d never thought about those, so called dares during drinking games, until now, even in the wake of Kerry and Sandy she’d never thought of it.

&nbs p;     “Oh, I’m sure it was.” Abby pegged a leaf of lettuce at Neela and both women laughed.

ERERERERER

&nbs p;     “That’s not the way I run my shift!” Robbi was irate, she was storming down the hallway and Kerry Weaver was rushing up behind her. The cane thumped on the tiled floor as she tried to follow her step for step. Eve side stepped them and stood back to watch the argument.

&nbs p;     “Well, that is the way we run this hospital!” Kerry shot back at her, and Robbi dropped the chart down on the desk and pushed passed Jerry with an angry grunt. The big man stumbled, as the petite woman, almost knocked him off his feet.

&nbs p;     “You! That is the way, YOU RUN, this hospital,” Robbi Romano blared back, turning around and standing toe to toe with Kerry. “He gave nitro to a patient, who had taken three, I repeat for the interns listening, THREE doses of Viagra, and killed him. Dead. He isn’t coming back Dr. Weaver! And the man’s still got a raging hard on! How the hell do I explain that to his wife, you know; the one he wasn’t sleeping with!  He was sleeping with his secretary!” Robbi Romano blazed, and Kerry motioned for her to keep her voice down.

&nbs p;     “Morris made a mistake…” Kerry began softly, trying, and needing to calm down Robbi.
