Ya Never Know… pt. 6 ERERERERER 0; “Abby? Are you wearing the same clothes as you were last night? Are you sodding telling me, that you hooked up with someone last night, after you dropped me off?” Neela asked her and Abby gave her a cynical grin. With her hands on her hips, Neela watched her reaction as she waited for an answer. Abby thought she looked gorgeous when she was angry and then squelched the thought. What was up with her, checking out women lately? Abby stopped in mid-stride, wondering where this sudden interest, in how women looked, was coming from. This had never happened before; she pulled her eyes away from Neela to shut the dumb thoughts out of her mind. 0; “Yes Neela, I am wearing the same clothes, and no I didn’t hook up with anyone. That word doesn’t sound right coming from your lips by the way,” Abby finally answered, as Archie Morris grabbed them both by the arm and pulled them off to the side of the desk. 0; “What do you want?” Abby grumbled and Neela gave her a warning glare. They may not like Archie, but he was Chief Resident and they needed to start acting like it. 0; “I’ve been trying to gather up the courage to ask Robbi out and I heard you guys spent some time with her last night…” He shuffled his feet nervously and wrung his hands. Neela’s dark coal eyes went wide Abby’s eyebrows shot up, as she casually slung an arm around Morris’ waist and turned him back towards the board. 0; “You know Morris,” she paused for effect, “I think you should go for it,” Abby said with a reassuring smile, while Neela’s jaw dropped. She put her hands up in the air and began to wave them at Abby mouthing the word ‘NO.’ Abby wasn’t listening. She was facing Morris with an honest smile on her face. 0; “Yeah? Yeah. I will.” The red-haired doctor walked off with confidence in his step. 0; “Abby! Why in the world did you do that?” Abby laughed grabbing a chart on a child with shortness of breath. 0; “That was some sweet revenge for having to deal with Morris on a day in and day out basis,” Abby offered. 0; “That is mean,” Neela said. Abby stood at the desk her arms wrapped around the chart, leaning on the desk. Watching as Archie began to chat up Robbi, who was staring at the new digital x-ray machine. “He deserves it, but it is still mean.” 0; Abby watched as she turned to Morris and smiled at him. Roberta’s grey eyes were luminous from Abby’s vantage point. She was wearing dark green scrubs and no lab coat. A dark green stethoscope hung around her neck and she played with it as Morris gathered up the courage to ask her out. A hot rush passed over Abby and she realized it was anger. What was she angry about? Her jaw bulged as she bit down on her own tongue. She turned on her heels and walked away, without witnessing the fireworks when Robbi told Morris she was gay and not interested. ERERERERER 0; “She said yes?” Abby almost yelled, as Sam told her, that Robbi and Morris had a date later that night. Abby felt her face flushing as she turned, with a jaw-dropping look, to stare at Robbi who was walking towards the doors of the ER bay. 0; “To Morris? You can’t be serious? Is she serious?” Neela asked, and Sam shrugged with noncommittal shoulders as Robbi announced a trauma. Neela moved to the gurney and stopped cold. They had, at the new doctor Clem’s insistence, formed teams. Robbi and Sam were on trauma detail and everyone was waiting for those fireworks, because Sam looked to be seething. The rest of them were on regular duty. Robbi pulled the gurney hard to the left, cutting off the view from the desk. Neela stood at the head of the gurney and shook hard at the sight. 0; “Sam why don’t you check on Mr. Mandrake, I’m going to get Clem to help me out on this one…” she stated, with a hint of something in her voice, and Sam saw the look in the woman’s eyes. She was still angry with her, but knew that something was amiss. 0; “Who is it? Alex? Oh god it’s Alex isn’t it?” She scurried around the desk and Abby was hot on her heels seeing who it was and her hand shot to her mouth. The blood sent her back stepping for the first time in her life. Her heart slammed to the bottom of her stomach. |
